About

The greatest document that summarizes Biblical Theology, in the English speaking world, is the Westminster Confession of Faith. This confession is the cornerstone of Covenant Reformed Church of Nanaimo, and will act as its Statement of Faith.

Below are some specific topics that need to be highlighted because of the current cultural subversion of the church.

Marriage:  Biblical marriage is between one man and one woman.

Gender: The gender of an individual is their biological sex and cannot be altered through identifying as anything different through dress or surgery. It is NOT a social construct that is assigned at birth, but a biological state. Men are to clearly dress masculine and Women are to clearly dress feminine, with modesty.

Sexuality: God has created man for women and women for man. Same Sex attraction is the sin of lust and is not an identity to be tacked on to Christianity. eg) there is no such thing as a “Gay Christian”. Any sexual desire to the same sex is a sin and needs to be repented of. Acting on any sexual desire to the same sex is an abomination to the Lord. Celibacy might be the only option for those suffering from such desires. Marriage to the opposite sex is encouraged, but not necessary to live a full life in Christ.

Patriarchy: God has appointed and designed men to be both leaders in their marriage and leaders of the church. Women are not permitted to teach or preach or have authority over a man in the church or home. Women are encouraged to be married and tend to their households, and to have many children, as children are a blessing from the Lord. That being said, we also recognize that in the current economic climate some wives might need to work outside the home, as long as they do not neglect the duties of child rearing.

Feminism, which is female rebellion to God’s Biblical order, is one of the greatest subversions in the modern church. One of the subtle ways in which this has currently manifested is in the idea of complementarianism. The over emphasis on the “servant leadership” required of a Man without the emphasis on the requirement to rule well, has led to the complementarianism being an appeasement to feminists in the church. Therefore we reject this ideology.

As a church we will work towards a restoration of Biblical Masculinity and Femininity.

We have a few more special sections dealing with eschatology and politics as these are both very contentious topics that do not necessarily fit into this section, as they have much more latitude for differing opinions.
